Macomb Preps

Week 2 Game of the Week Preview

By Nick Candela

The Macomb Preps Game of the Week gives you a key MAC Crossover, as the Port Huron Northern Huskies (1-0, MAC Blue) will look to avenge their only regular season loss of 2018, a 14-6 decision to Romeo (1-0, MAC Red). Both teams are coming off convincing week 1 victories. The Huskies put up over 300 yards of total offense in a 42-6 win vs Lake Shore (0-1, MAC Gold), and Romeo avenged their 2018 loss to Oxford in impressive fashion with a 41-14 victory at home. Now, when I say “impressive fashion” I mean just that! The Bulldogs wore throwback “Peachmen” uniforms, in honor of the Romeo Peach Festival & the High School’s former nickname, which donned an interesting combination of Peach and Red vertical stripes. Catch the action Friday Night, 7:00 PM at Romeo. (Barnabo Field: 62100 Jewell Rd Washington, MI 48094)

Players to Watch:

For Port Huron Northern, it is obvious to bring up future Michigan Wolverine and current Defensive End for the Huskies, Braiden McGregor. McGregor had 4 tackles for a loss and half a sack in week one, before succumbing to an ankle injury that would keep him out for the remainder of the game. All signs point to him participating this week. Huskies Senior Quarterback, Seth Klink, threw for 207 yards and 3 Touchdowns vs the Shorians and Senior Running Back, Theo Ellis, added 136 rushing yards and 3 touchdowns. Klink’s favorite target was Senior WR, James Delong, who had 2 receiving Touchdowns in week 1.

The Romeo Bulldogs unleashed an impressive running game in week 1, rushing for 376 yards as a team. In the backfield for the Bulldogs, are two senior backs, Ryan Czapski, and Brian St. Clair. St. Clair would rush for 176 yards and 2 TD’s vs Oxford. Other notable players for Romeo are Michigan Recruit, LS/WR, Greg Tarr and Linemen Weston Jones, Neil Shaw and John Lafave.
