Macomb Preps

Week 6 Game of the Week Preview

By Nick Candela

The Week 6 Macomb Preps Game of the Week is a MAC Crossover game between the hosting Utica Cheiftains (2-3, 1-2, MAC White) and the visiting Titans from Sterling Heights Stevenson (2-3, 0-3, MAC Red). The Titans dominate the series all time with a record of 27-9. However, the Chieftains have won two of the last three match ups. Both teams started the year on the right track going 2-0. Since then, both squads have dropped their last 3 games and both are looking to right the ship to keep any playoff hopes alive. In order to automatically qualify for the state tournament, both teams would have to win out the remainder of their schedules to get to the coveted 6 win mark.  Utica hasn’t been in the post season since 2017 and Stevenson was last in the playoffs in 2015. Catch the action live in person on Friday night, 7:00 PM at Barney Swinehart Field (47255 Shelby Rd, Utica, MI 48317). You can also listen to live audio play by play with Gerry Mac, right here at

Players to Watch:

The Chieftains have a fine Quarterback in Senior, Jack Keen. He’s athletic and throws a good deep ball. He is currently being recruited by the likes of Valparaiso, Northern Michigan and Youngstown State. In the backfield with Keen is Senior RB Gabe Olschefsky. Olschefsky has quickness to break free and always seems to be a nice outlet for Keen as well. Sr. Kurt Kessen will play both sides of the ball. He’s a tough 3 year starter at Defensive End and also plays Tight End.

For Stevenson, all eyes are generally on 6’6″ 285 lb Junior OL, Giovanni El-Hadi. Most of the reason all eyes are on him, are because, well… you can’t really miss him on the field. A true giant on the offensive line for the Titans. El-Hadi is currently the 5th ranked recruit in the state of Michigan (, and verbally committed to the University of Michigan. Stevenson has done a bit of Quarterback by committee this season. You will see both, Junior, Dylan Kleinedler and Sophomore, Biagio Madonna taking snaps. Both are elusive athletes who are not afraid to run the ball. Joining them in the back field is Senior Running back, Nick Wingfield who not only runs the ball effectively but is a dual threat catching passes out of the backfield as well. Defensively, watch for Zach Imms and Jordan Kwiatkowski.
